Q

HVLTR
What is involved in the assessment (e.g. materials, administration details, general scoring guidelines)

A
  1. Learning Trials
    - Admin reads 12 words
    - Participant asked to recall verbatim
  2. Delayed Recall Trial
    - Dont tell participant they will have to recall previous words
    - ask to remember 20-25 min after learning trial
  3. Delayed Recognition Trial
    - Administer directly after delayed recall
    - Admin reads 24 words, respond to every word with yes or no

Scoring
- Recall Trials - write down each word said - tally the number of correctly reported words
- Minor Errors - making the word plural, pronouciation errors - marked as correct
- Major errors - saying an unambigious paraphrase - incorrect

  • Total score = sum of total correct for all learning trials = t score conversion
  • Delayed recall score sum> t score
  • Retention percentage = trial 4 divided by the higher trial 2 or 3 score times 100 > tscore
  • Recognition Discrimination Index = total true positive - total # of false positive > tscore

Q

HVLTR
Is it reliable / valid? Limitations/benefits of
standardization?

A

Standardization
- Sig more women 800:300
- wide age range

Interform reliability
High construct validity
High discriminant validity

Test-retest reliability on retention % and recognition discrimination index is lower 0.4

Q

HVLTR
What are the central / defining features of the assessment?

A
  • The HVLT-R is a short verbal memory test that tells you about recall and recognition memory
  • Target population: 16+, native english speakers, adequate hearing
It has 3 types of trials: Learning, Delay Recall, and Recognition
  • It is used to assess various neuropsychological symptoms such as dementia, TBI, alzehimers
There are 6 forms of the test, but 2 subgroups
