What does the measure assess? (can think about why it was developed)

A

Designed to assess:
1. Behavioural, Emotional, and Social Problems
2. Competencies and adaptive behaviour

Cross informant approach of Achenback system of empirically based assessment includes 3 parts (ASEBA)
1. CBCL
2. Teacher’s report form
3. Youth Self-Report

Parent-Report Questionnaire - report last 6 months
15-20 min

Target pop: 6-18 yrs old
Preschool version: 1.5 -5 yrs

What scales are included?

A
  1. Competence
    - activities (participation, skill)
    - social (friends interaction w other kids)
    - school (academic performance, behaviour in school setting)
  2. Syndrome
    - anxious, depressed, withdrawn, thought and attention problems, rule-breaking and aggressive behaviour - internalizing and externalizing
  3. DSM-Oriented
    - ADHD, ODD- linkage btw scores and diagnostic categories

What is involved in the assessment (e.g. materials, administration details, general scoring guidelines)

A
  • Raw score uses likert scale
  • Number of friends, times a week with friends outside of school, getting along scale below average -better

Variety of types of questions including open-ended, how true something is on a 3 point likert scale

Total number of rating for all items in each subscale gets converted to a TSCORE - conversion table in manual based on age and gender

CLINICAL if t score greater than 70 or 2 SDs
BORDERLINE 1-2 SDs
NORMAL = 1 sd

A

Connor Parent Rating Scale
- part of a braoder assessment - cross-informant - focuses on ADHD

CBCL in comparison to MINI and SCID provides a broad overview of child’s functioning and can help identify areas that may require further assessment - more of an intitial screening tool

  • can be completed WITHOUT a clinician administering which is where it differs from the others
  • identify AREAS OF CONCERN in terms of behavioural, social emotional problems but doesnt diagnose
