ADI Flashcards
ADI
What does the measure assess? (can think about why it was developed)
Caregiver sem-structured interview
Help diagnose ASD through
** current behaviour and developmental
history**
Important basis for diagnosis
ADI
Target population (age, special populations, etc.
Who administers?
Target Population: Non-verbal mental age of at least 2 years old
Administered by bachelors +training or master’s
ADI
What scales are included?
3 domains of functioning
- Language and Communication
- Reciprocal Social Interactions
- Restrictive, repetitive & stereotyped behaviours and interests
ADI
What is involved in the assessment (e.g. materials, administration details, general scoring guidelines)
Parts of assessment
Interviewing
Scoring - algorithms and steps to score
Administration:
1. Background
2. Introduction
3. Early Development
4. LC
5. Social development and play
6. Interests and Behaviours
7. General Behaviours
Interviewing:
- Detailed descriptions, discrepancies, cues, open ended, non-leading, behaviour comparison to other kids
Scoring
Diagnostic algorithm:
- Dev history - researched and validated
Current Behaviour algorithm:
- Last 3 months behaviour, estimates functioning for treatment planning
Options: Current, Ever, Most Abonormal, specific age
AGE: Both algorithms difffer based on age - which to use
- select algorithm
- convert raw scores using conversion
- Add scores from each section
- Interpret scores
- Consistent Disconfirming - maybe no but need ADOS, if ADOS yes caregiver unreliable
- Confirming - yes and need ADOS
- Mixed Results - clinician discretion, might be another disorder
ADI
Is it reliable / valid? Limitations/benefits of
standardization?
R/V:
-high test retest
-discriminate btw LD and ASD
- Converges with ADOS & DSM
- predictive of stable diagnosis
Standardization:
- Flexibility in probing
- Trained person
- Aligns with DSM and ICD10
ADI
Under what situation might you choose to administer the assessment? Consider the benefits & limitations?
-Use to diagnose ASD
-Use when caregiver is involved
-Assess social interaction & communication
ADI
what are some benefits & limitations of the assessment?
Benefits
-Focuses on developmental history vs. ADOS present behavior
-Provides info about behaviour across settings.
- Differentiates ASD from other dev disorders.
Limitations
- Time consuming 1.5-2.5
- Dependent on informant report
- Cultural/linguistic bias
- Cost and training
ADI
How is the assessment similar / different from others discussed in the course?
Differences
1. Interview vs ados observational
2. administered to caregiver vs. ados individual
3. focus on dev history vs. focus on standardized tasks/activities
Both ADI and ADOS used to:
- Assess ASD
- trained clinicians
- Comprehensive assessment
- Assess social interaction/communication
