Group (affiliation network)
a social category to which people could be affiliated
Civil society
a society (region) consisting of a cohesive web of voluntary associations
Organizational cohesion
the degree of voluntary association involvement in society
Intergroup cohesion
the degree to which (members of different) groups in society have positive relations with each other as opposed to negative relations
Group segregation
people tend to have more frequently group-bonding ties than group bridging ties
Group-bonding tie
a tie between two individuals who belong to the same group
Group-bridging tie
a tie between two members who are affiliated to different groups
Group segregation index
Group bonding ties / bonding ties + bridging ties
Endogamy
when people marry someone from their own group
Exogamy
when people marry with a member of an out-group
Consolidation
the degree of overlap (correlation, consolidation) between groups with respect to a certain dimension
Foci
social settings such as schools, workplaces an neighbourhoods in which people participate and that create the pool of people we meet
Homophily phenomenon
people prefer to interact with members of their own group as opposed to members of other groups
In-group favouritism
there is a general tendency that individuals have more positive in-group relationships than out-group relationships
