Homeostasis Flashcards

1
Q

Homeostasis

A
  • Tendency of body to work towards maintaining a set internal state
  • Human body is ALWAYS trying to maintain this
  • Dynamic, as internal state is constantly changing

A

Monitors and detects change or stimulus affecting homeostasis (Ex receptors on skin)

Q

Negative Feedback System

A

Most common!
End result is a decrease in original stimulus, restoring homeostasis (Ex thermostat in house; loss of water - drop in blood pressure - ADH released - water retained etc)

Q

Positive Feedback System

A

The effector causes more of the original stimulus to occur (until physiological process finishes Ex childbirth)
