Foundation
The substructure for a superstructure, includes footings, foundation walls, columns, and pedestals
Insulation
Material placed in walls and ceilings that is rated by R-factor for its ability to resist heat transfer
R Factor
A rating system for insulation material; determines the level of insulation provided by a substance
Roof
The outside covering of the top of a building or structure
Sheathing
A 4-feet-by-8-feet plywood or other wood exterior covering placed over exterior studding
Stucco
One of the most common materials used because it is flexible and inexpensive
Termites
A type of insect that eat wood
Wood frame construction
The most frequent method of construction in Arizona for single family homes
British Thermal Units(BTU)
Measurement used in heating and cooling. A BTU is enough to heat to raise one pound of water 1 degree Fahrenheit. Conversely, 12,000 BTUs per hour is equal to the amount of cooling from melting one tone of ice in 24 hours
Central Warm-Air Heating
A system if warm air forced through ducts in the ceilings and returned by ducts that intake and recirculate air
Heat Pump
A system that uses a natural furnace for heating that reverses the flow of refrigerant to heat as well as cool
Registrar of Contractors
Has jurisdiction over licensed contractors’ workmanship
Storage Area
Area for storage space but not a washer and dryer
Utility Area
An area for storage that also has connections for a washer and dryer
Warranty
Provides protection against cost of repairs
