Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The first comprehensive American civil rights law for people with disabilities; affects every employer, business, public service, and real estate
Commercial Facilites
Facilities “that are intended for nonresidential use” by a private entity and “whose operations affect commerce”
Major Life Activities
Walking, speaking, breathing, seeing, hearing, learning, working, or independently caring for onself
Public Accommodations
A place of public use by government or private entities that must comply with ADA
Reasonable Accomodation
Any modification or adjustment that will enable a qualified employee or occupant with a disability to enjoy equal opportunity to use a dwelling or perform essential job functions
Reasonable Modification
Barrier removal and modifications required to ensure equal opportunity for access to individuals with disabilites
