Brownfield
A property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant
Brownfields Program
Environmental Protection Agency’s 1995 program to provide empowerment to states, communities, and other economic interests to redevelop brownfields
Clean Air Act
The act addresses a wide range of issues related to air pollution control, including pollutant emissions limitations, air quality criteria, and more
Clean Water Act
Also known as the federal water pollution control act; covers a wide range of issues related to water pollution control
Effluent
Liquid waste or sewage discharged into a river or the sea
Releases
Unintentional or intentional, chronic or sudden, small or major releases of hazardous substances to the environment or people’s exposure to these substances
Superfund
Also known as CERCLA, it was created to provide authority and funding for cleaning up hazardous materials released into the environment
Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF)
Also known as the Arizona “mini superfund” liability; it is similar to CERCLA
Wetlands
Areas inundated or saturated by surface water or groundwater at a frequency and duration sufficient to support vegetation that is adapted for life in saturated conditions
Effluent
