What is HL?
accumulation of malignant lymphocytes in lymph nodes and other lymphoid tissue - MAY spill into blood
How is HL differentiated from NHL?
HL = Reed-Sternburg cells - neoplastic B cells
How does HL present?
painless, asymmetrical firm and discreet enlarged lymph nodes - usually cervical B symptoms itch alcohol induced pain splenomehaly mediastinal involvement young patients - normally female
What is seen on blood investigation of HL?
normochromatic normocytic anaemia
neutrophillia and eosinophillia
increased ESR and CRP
increased LDH
How is HL diagnosed?
biopsy of affected lymph node
How is HL staged?
PET + CT
What is stage 1 HL?
node involvement of one lymph node area
What is stage 2 HL?
disease involvement of two or more lymph node areas
What is stage 3 HL?
disease involving lymph nodes above and below the diaphragm
What is stage 4 HL?
involvement outside the lymph node areas
