What are lymphomas?
Disorder caused by malignant proliferation of lymphocytes
What are some risk factors for HL?
An affected sibling, Epstein-Barr virus, Lupus
What cells found histologically is characteristic of HL?
Reed-Sternberg cells
What do Reed-Sternberg cells look like?
Mirror-image nuclei
What are signs and symptoms of HL?
Fever and sweating, lymphadenopathy, systemic B symptoms, painful nodes on drinking alcohol
What might happen to superficial lymph nodes?
They might become enlarged, non-tender and rubbery
What are B signs?
Fever, weight loss, night sweats, itching, lethargy
What tests would you do?
FBC, CXR, PET scan, histology
What blood test results would you expect?
Anaemia, high ESR
What chemo drugs cure about 80% of patients?
ABVD
What staging system is used for lymphoma?
Ann Arbor system
What is Stage I?
Confined to a single lymph node region
What is Stage II?
Involvement of two or more nodal areas on the same side of the diaphragm
What is Stage III?
Involvement of nodes on both sides of the diaphragm
What is Stage IV?
Spread beyond lymph nodes
