Hodgkin Lymphoma Flashcards
Lymphoid organs
Primary- bone barrow
Secondary- organs
B cells differentiate into what where
Plasma cells in medulla
Plasma cells produce
Antibodies
B cells develop into
Plasma cells and produce antibodies
Some become centroblasts- which form germinal center
Centrocyte turns to
Plasma cell
Or memory B cell
What happens in the lymphoma/ how does it start
B cell has abnormal antibody gene rearrangement in germinal centre
Begins to divide uncontrollably
Hodgkin lymphoma features
Spreads to nearby nodes (contigously)
Rarely extranodial
Has reed sternberg cells
Non Hodgkin lymphoma features
Spreads non contigously
Extranodal sites
No reed- sternberg cells
Cripples cels features
No antibodies produced
Surrounded by inflammatory cells
Activate fibroblasts and eosinophils
Neoplasticism cells express
CD15 +CD30
Symptoms
Fever
Night sweat
Fatigue
Painless cervical adenopathy
Diagnosis
Ct to establish stage
Lymph node biopsy for diagnosis
Treatment
Chemo/radiation
For modular lymphocyte predominant can use rituximab
Prognosis
Better than non Hodgkin lymphoma
