Why was the Great Hall so important

A

In the Great Hall, people would have the most important meal of the day, which was dinner. The nobles and his family would sit on a raised platform at one end the Hall, and at the other end, there would be a fireplace. The rest of the people would sit at a long table and have a meal consisting of many dishes (12 on an ordinary day and 30 during a special feast). In the Great Hall, the noble would do his business, his children would do lessons, everybody would eat and afterwards, there would be entertainment. For example, juggling, singing, etc.

Q

How did people behave at dinner in the Great Hall

A

They were not very polite at meals. They did not eat out of bowls but their food was put on thick slices of dry bread. Often, at the end of their meal, they also ate those ‘plates’. The people threw bones and things they could not eat on the floor. They spat on the floor, ate with their fingers, etc.

Q

What is the feudal system (ask larissa for pyramid diagram)

A

The king owned all of the land in the country. He could not rule it all by himself. It was difficult for him because there were no policemen or proper roads. It would take weeks for his soldiers to get to another part of the country if there was any trouble. This is why the king decided to rule by the Feudal system. In that system, people would have to obey the people above him and protect the people below them. In the Feudal System, the king, chief nobles, people of the Church and the knight were in the upper class. The peasants, craftsmen and ordinary priests were in the lower class.

Q

Why did people believe everything/have blind faith

A

First of all, most people never went more than a few kilometres from their village in their entire life. They didnt know much about what was happening in other parts of their country, and the few strangers that they saw usually told strange, false stories to make themselves seem important

Q

What happened after the Church realised they were the center of people’s lives

A

The Church helped and advised the people of the village in many ways. The Church became the center of their lives and the priest was the most important man in the village. As a result, the villagers began to believe whatever they were told by them. So, the Church became very powerful and rich. Some of the bishops became interested only in money and spent more time on politics instead of religion.
