History The Feudal System, Age of Faith Church Flashcards
What are three things that the priests/Church did for the people in its village
- The priests helped/looked after the old, poor and sick people
- The priests gave the villagers advice and told them all the teachings on religion
- The priests told the people/villagers about what was right and wrong and how they should behave
Write down some things the priests did (in the Age of Faith, when everyone was superstitious and believed everything they were told + didn’t think for themselves)
- Sometimes the priests/preachers were wicked and greedy. So, they would trick the people into giving them land, money and goods in the name of religion.
- They would often tell people to do bad things by threatening them with terrible punishments after death.
Why was the Great Hall so important
In the Great Hall, people would have the most important meal of the day, which was dinner. The nobles and his family would sit on a raised platform at one end the Hall, and at the other end, there would be a fireplace. The rest of the people would sit at a long table and have a meal consisting of many dishes (12 on an ordinary day and 30 during a special feast). In the Great Hall, the noble would do his business, his children would do lessons, everybody would eat and afterwards, there would be entertainment. For example, juggling, singing, etc.
What is the feudal system (ask larissa for pyramid diagram)
The king owned all of the land in the country. He could not rule it all by himself. It was difficult for him because there were no policemen or proper roads. It would take weeks for his soldiers to get to another part of the country if there was any trouble. This is why the king decided to rule by the Feudal system. In that system, people would have to obey the people above him and protect the people below them. In the Feudal System, the king, chief nobles, people of the Church and the knight were in the upper class. The peasants, craftsmen and ordinary priests were in the lower class.
What was the Age of Faith
In the Middle Ages in Europe, people believed everything they were told, especially about religion and did not think for themselves. They were also very superstitious. This was the Age of Faith
