Pollution
It is the introduction of harmful substances into the environment. This damages the quality of air, water, soil and living organisms.
There are many different kinds of pollution. One example is air pollution. The air is polluted by different forms of matter..

Dust
Dust is all around us. It mainly comes from construction work. As it consists of very small particles, it can easily enter our body when we inhale, and settle in our lungs. Thus, (when it accumulates over time) it can cause respiratory problems such as chronic cough, allergic reactions, asthma, etc. Dust affects the environment as well, as it can slow down processes like photosynthesis - by reducing the amount of sunlight reaching the leaves.
Fossil fuels
Next, the burning of fossil fuels in factories (e.g. coal or natural gas) releases poisonous substances into the environment like carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide. When these are mixed in the air, they can cause acid rain which harms plants, soil and and aquatic organisms. Over time, acid rain can rot away stonework, buildings, etc. Another gas, nitrogen oxide, can create smog which is when smoke and fog mixes and settles over cities.

HOW TO PREVENT
As we have seen, pollution has many negative effects on ourselves so here are a few things we can do to try and prevent it:
1. Some low-cost ways of transportation are that we ca
2. A more costly approach to prevent pollution, would be to invest in an electric car or a fuel-efficient car.
3. We should opt for reusing and recycling things, and only buy new things when necessary.
4. We should try to conserve energy, in simple ways such as taking shorter showers or switching a light off when it is not needed.
