E LIT HOMEWORK Flashcards
“The Outsiders” is a novel written by the author S. E. Hinton. In the third chapter of this novel, Cherry (- a Soc and one of the characters), says the line “Things are rough all over”. Before this, Ponyboy was explaining to her how Johnny was badly jumped by so many cruel Socs. After this, Cherry reminds Pony to not stereotype, (because not all of them were like that) and that Socs had their own problems. She tells Pony that even though he may think that the Socs “had it all made” and had everything in their favour, in reality - they had their own troubles. This is when she says that “things are rough all over”, meaning/indicating that wherever they are, no matter which social group they belong to, everyone will still have their own problems and worries.
