Histology Flashcards
what appear to be ‘spaces’ between cells in the epithelium are actually?
mucous secreting goblet cells
of the gut tube, what can you view at magnification x4?
mucosa
submucosa
muscularis externa
serosa/adventitia
of the gut tube, what can you view at magnification x40?
mucosa:
epithelium, lamina propria and muscularis mucosae
where in the gut tube would you find large amounts of payers patches?
ileum
what is the function of paneth cells and where are they found?
found at the bottom of crypts of leiberkhun
they secrete lysozymes and secretory phospholipase A2
what cells are found going up the sides of the crypts of leiberkhun?
parietal cells
what is characteristic of histology of the large intestine?
no villi
thick mucosa with crypts and mucous secreting cells
how would you identify the different parts in a pancreas slide?
acini - strongly stained
islets of lagerhands - poorly stained
how would you identify the the spleen on a histology slide?
white and red pulp
white pulp = pale nodule
red pulp = highly vascular cords of cells, darkely stained
how would you differentiate between the stomach and the small intestine on a histology slide?
the stomach has no villi or goblet cells. it will have short gastric pits
the small intestine will have simple columnar epithelium with glands in its submucosa
