Histology Flashcards
what are the different forms of mucosa in the GI tract?
absorptive
secretory
protective
absorptive/protective
where would you find protective mucosa?
oral cavity, pharynx, oesophagus, anal canal
what type of mucosa would the small intestine have?
absorptive
what type of mucosa would you find in the large intestine?
absorptive/protective
where would you find secretory mucosa?
stomach
what are the layers of the gut tube?
mucosa (epithelium, lamina propria and muscularis mucosae)
submucosa
muscularis externa
adventitia/serosa
what type of epithelium is found in the gut tube?
mouth, oesophagus, anal canal= stratified squamous
stomach, small and large intestine = simple columnar
in what parts of the gut tube would you find glands in the submucosa?
oesophagus and duodenum
what histological features are found in the pancreas?
islets of langerhans - clump of poorly stained cells
pure serous acini composed of strongly stained cells
small lobules surrounded by connective tissue septa
what is the main components of white pulp and red pulp in the spleen?
white pulp = lymphatic tissue = WBC and lymphocytes
Red pulp = blood filled cavities and splenic cords for filtration of RBC
