Hippo 2 Flashcards
CAMKII phosphorylates ______
causing prolonged activation of CAMKII that can last for days.
itself
↑ activity of
CAMKII elicits changes –> larger EPSP, including:
incorporation of AMPA receptors in the postsynaptic plasma membrane
phosphorylation of AMPA–> more responsive to the glutamate.
“Longer” term changes
“New neurons” in dentate
involvement in learning not well understood
?
Alzheimer’s disease plaques
Amyloid Beta
Amyloid Precursor
Can be cut into alpha or beta
Beta is made by Gamma or Beta proteases
AB–> Plaque
Aβ deposition in
humans show a failure to
maintain:
LTP in the hippocampus
Klüver-Bucy syndrome.
a syndrome resulting from bilateral lesions of the anterior temporal lobe- including amygdaloid nucleus
may present with hyperphagia, hypersexuality, hyperorality, visual agnosia, and docility.
Amygdala removed leads to
Fear
Motivation
Attention
Sex drive
Conditioned fear is mediated by changes in the neuronal circuits in the _____________
lateral and central nuclei of the amygdala
Rats and Amygdala
Tone= no response
Tone + shock–> fear response
tone= fear ( increase of blood pressure and the length of time the animals crouch without moving (freezing))
Conditioned flavor aversion (CFA) in mice
mice- eats sugar
Mice- Sugar + Li IP
– makes the mouse sick
Mice- avoid sugar
- Does work with smell
- Does not work w/ umami
Conditioned flavor aversion Mechanism
phosphorylation of NMDA receptor affects its response to stimulation from fibers coming from the amygdala
this is where CFA is transmitted because the amygdala receives information on malaise from the vagus nerve.
*B/c phosphor of NMDA lasts ½ hr, stimulation of amygdala leads to associative learning that causes aversion to the food that was paired with malaise.
