Hip Joint Ligaments Flashcards
Capsular
Origin: Acetabular margin
Insertion: Femoral neck
Comments: Encloses femoral head and part of neck; acts in flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and circumduction
Iliofemoral
Origin: Iliac spine and acetabulum
Insertion: Intertrochanteric line
Comments: The strongest ligament; forms inverted Y (of Bigetow); limits hyperextension and lateral rotation
Ischiofemoral
Origin: Acetabulum
Insertion: Femoral neck (posterior)
Comment: Limits extension and medial rotation; weak ligament
Pubofemoral
Origin: Pubic ramus
Insertion: Lower femoral neck
Comments: Limits extension and abduction
Labrum
Attachment: Acetabulum
Comment: Fibrocartilage, deepens socket
Transverse Acetabular
Attachment: Acetabular notch inferiorly
Comment: Cups acetabulum to form a socket for the femoral head
Ligament of Head of Femur
Origin: Acetabular notch and transverse ligament
Insertion: Femoral head
Comments: Artery to femoral head runs in this ligament
