Tibialis Anterior
Origin: Deep surface of the fascia cruris, lateral condyle of the tibia, proximal 1/2-2/3 of the lateral surface of the tibial shaft and the interosseous membrane.
Insertion: Base of the first metatarsal, medial and plantar surfaces of the medial cuneiform.
Tibialis Anterior Function
Dorsiflexion,
Inversion of the foot at the subtalar and transverse tarsal joints
Extensor Digitorum Longus
Origin: Medial surface of the fibula an lateral condyle of the tibia
Insertion: splits into 4 tendons which insert onto the distal dorsal surface of the toes
Extensor Digitorum Longus Function
Dorsiflexion (forefoot),
depresses the heel,
Extends the toes and ankle
Extensor Hallucis Longus
Origin: Anterior aspect of the interosseous membrane and the middle 1/3 of the medial surface of the fibular
Insertion: The dorsal aspect of the base of the distal phalanx of the great toe
Extensor Hallucis Longus Function
Dorsiflexion,
Extension of the great toe
Peroneus Tertius
Origin: Distal 1/2 of the fibula, anterior intermuscular septum
Insertion: Base of the 5th metatarsal
Peroneus Tertius Function
Dorsiflexion,
Eversion
