Deltoid Ligaments Flashcards
Ankle Ligaments
Calcaneonavicular Ligament
Medioplantar Oblique: originates in coronoid fossa, inserts at tubercle of navicular
Superomedial: originates from anterior surface of sustentaculum tali, inserts onto superomedial part of navicular
Inferoplantar: originates from lateral aspect of coronoid fossa, inserts at the inferior proximal aspect of the navicular.
Caclaneonavicular Ligament Function and MoI
Function: Supports arch, talus, and stabilises the talonavicular joint.
MoI: over-use, trauma, eversion ankle strain
Tibiocalcaneal Ligament
Origin: medial tibial malleolus
Insertion: posterior sustentaculum calcanei
Tibiocalcaneal Ligament Function and MoI
Functions: Controls abduction, ankle stability and tightens with plantar/dorsiflexion
MoI: Forceful pronation and rotation movements of the hindfoot
Tibionavicular Ligament
Origin: Anterior colliculus of the medial malleolus
Insertion: dorsomedial aspect of the navicular bone
Tibionavicular Ligament Function and MoI
Function: Limits ankle eversion; becoming tighter during plantarflexion and abduction.
MoI: Related to the position of the foot at the time of injury.
