Hip joint Flashcards
what two membranes is the articular capsule made up of
external- formed by the dense irregular collagenous tissue called fibrous capsule
internal- lines inside and seperates the structures except the hyaline cartilage
3 types of ligaments at joint
intrinsic- form external layer of fibrous capsule
Intraarticular- within articular cavity but not within synovial cavity
Extraarticular- outside fibrous membrane and don’t attach to it
how much do normal hips and dysplastic hips cover the femoral head
normal- acetabulum covers 66-81%
Dysplastic- acetabulum covers 38-64%
what covers the acetabular fossa
- lunate surface on edges
- the transverse acetabular lig will complete the rest
what arteries travel thru the transverse acetabular lig
acetabular branches from the obturator and medial circumflex artery
what depends the acetabular fossa
acetabular labrum
what pos does the hip have to be in to uniformly distribute the load
flexed 90 degrees
abducted 5 degrees
rotated lat 10 degrees
what pos is the most stable for the hip
when it is extended
what are the pros attachments of the hip joint
- lunate surface attached by transverse lig
- fibrocartilagenous acetabular labrum
- fibrous capsul
where is the thickest and most protected part of the hip joint
sup and ant
Pincer vs CAM impingment
pincer- hip socket covers too much
cam- misshapen femoral head
inferior and sup attachment of hip j
inf- intertrochanteric line
sup- base of greater trochanter
what is found on the posterior part of hip joint and where is the post attachment
zona orbicularis (circular fibers of lower part of fibrous capsul)
intertrochanteric crest
what is the strongest lig of the hip j and what does it prevent
iliofemoral lig
extension
what are the attachments of the iliofemoral lig
2 bands
lat= AIIS to base of greater trochanter and prox 1/3 of intertrochanteric line
med-AIIS to distal 1/3 of interochanteric line
