How do you diagnose the hip?
A
TART:
- Look for asymmetry
- Palpate for tissue texture changes, tenderness
- Range of motion:
- Hip flexion (knee straight) - 90
- Hip flexion (knee flexed) - 120-135
- Hip Extension - 15-30
- Hip Abduction - 45-50
- Hip Adduction - 20-30
- Hip External Rotation - 40-60
- Hip Internal Rotation - 30-40
Diagnose according to greatest restriction of motion

How do you do a direct treatment of the hip?

How do you do an indirect treatment of the hip?
A
MFR
- Have pt lie down supine
- Have pt flex hip and knee to 90 degress each
- Test internal/external rotation and determine position of laxity
- Apply compression along femur to facilitate laxity
- Follow any tissue release until tissue release is perceived
