Cervical Flashcards
How do you diagnose OA?
Type 1 - like
Sidebent and rotation directions are OPPPOSITE
Nueutral, Flexion, or Extension
How do you diagnose AA?
Rotation Only
Fully flex C-Spine and rotate head finding which direction has a greater restricion
AA RR or AA RL
How do you diagnose C2-C7 Typical Joints?
Type 2 - Like
Can be grouped or a single segment
Test for Flexion/Extension/Neutral
Rotation and Sidebending are in the SAME direction
What Direct Treatment do you do for OA?
MET
Put patient into the Barrier
- For OA N RR SL:
- Put patient into Left Rotation, Sidebent Right
Have patient resist your force, trying to return to neutral for a few seconds, then have them relax
Push them further into barrier and repeat
What direct treatment do you do for AA?
MET
JUST ROTATION
Have patient fully flexed and rotate their head into the restrictive barrier
Tell patient to resist your force by attempting to return to neutral, then have them relax
Push further into restrictive barrier and repeat
What direct treatment do you do for C2-C7?
MET
Move patient into restrictive barrier and have them resist your force for a few seconds before relaxing, then repeat
Return to Neutral and Reassess with TART
Example - C3-C5 F RR SR
- Move patient into Extension, RL, SL while monitoring the PTPs
What indirect treatment do you do for OA?
BLT
Patient Supine, physician seated at head
Use one hand to “pinch” grasp the laminae on either side of C1
Place other hand on top of head
Put Pt into position of ease (e.g., OA N RR SL; put them into Rotated Right and Sidebent left) and find the balance
Test respiratory phases by having Pt hold in either Inhalation or Exhalation for 15-20 seconds
Then return to neutral
Reassess with TART
