Flextion Extension Abduction Addiction IR ER
Thomas Test
Positive
- Contracture of Hip flexors
- Lordotic curve in lumber spine
The Modified Thomas test
Positive
- Slightly Thigh flexed - Tight Psoas or Rec fem
- Extend the knee passively
- Does Thigh Drop -Rec fem tightness
- Not Thigh Drop - Psoas tightness - Knee does not flex 90 degree - Tight rec fem
- Leg Abduction - Tight TFL, Glutes Med and IT band
- Hip Lateral Rotation - Tight Piriformis
- Rotation of Tibia - Unilateral Hamstring tightness
Ober’s Test
Sidelying - AB upper leg - slightly EX hip - Release
(TFL/ ITband)
Positive
1. Leg remains above the height of table
- Knee FL and drop - IT band tightness
- Knee FL and Not drop - TFL tightness
Piriformis Test
Side lying - upper hip and knee FL 90degree - push knee toward floor
Positive
1. Pain - buttock also radiate down the leg (sciatic n impingement)
Trendelenburg Test
Strength and inner action of hip ABductors (Glutes Med/L5)
Positive
- Pelvis Drop on the opposite side
* perform opposite side first
Patrick’s or Fabre Test
Flexibility of the ADdactor mms
Figure 4 position - ABduct toward table
Positive
1. Pain at inguinal region - Hip jt pathology
sacroiliac jt - Sacroiliac joint
- Fabre= F Ab ER= FL/AB/EX ROT
Scouring ( The Quadrant Test)
Articulate surface of the head of the Femur= Acetabulum
Start with Hip FL-ADd knee (opposite shoulder)
*linear / longitudinal force down the femur
AB + ER= outer aspect of Hip jt
AD + IR = Inner aspect of Hip jt
Positive
1. Grating/Sound - osteoarthritis change
Ely’s Test
Injure, contracture or tight Rec fem
Positive
1. Buttocks starts to rise.
*Watch closely in the first 30 degree of knee FL
