Hematopoiesis - Lough Flashcards

1
Q

What is the difference between red and yellow bone marrow?

Q

What varieties of stem cells can be found in bone marrow? What do they produce?

A

Multipotent master stem cells- produce all bone marrow cells

Mesenchymal stem cells- produce bone, endothelial cells

Hematopoietic stem cells- produce all blood cell progenitors

Q

How does FACS work?

A

Cells are incubated with antibodies that have a charged fluorophore. When they go through the machine, they are counted by the color emitted by the fluorophore and sorted into groups by the charge.
