Hematology Flashcards
1
Q
Chloride shift
A
CO2 picked up from the tissue by RBCs is converted to HCO3- by carbonic anhydrase, this is then exchanged for Cl- in the venous blood.
This causes RBCs in arterial blood to have low Cl- concentraion and RBCs in venous blood to have higher Cl- concentration.
2
Q
Hemophilia A
A
Factor VIII, intrinsic pathway defect, aPTT prolonged
3
Q
Factor VII deficiency
A
extrinsic pathway defect, prolonged PT
4
Q
Bleeding problems in Crohns or other malabsorptive diseases
A
Decreased bile acid absorption = decreased vitamin K
5
Q
O2 disassociation curve for myglobin
A
Very high affinity for O2
