CS of zinc toxicity
GIT (cellular irritation/damage): vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, diarrhea
Hematologic (RBC damage): hemolytic anemia, icterus,
Renal (cell damage):Azotemia, hyperphosphatemia
Chem analysis for zinc
Use trace element tubes for analysis
Royal/dark blue tube stopper
serum, liver kidney, pancreas, urine
What would you expect to see with zinc toxicity?
Hemolytic anemia
Ddx with zinc toxicity
Other toxins that can cause hemolytic anemia:
Copper, lead toxicosis
naphthalene toxicosis
onion poisoning
Tx for zinc toxicity
decontamination
supportive care
Chelation?
