Heart Parts Flashcards
Superior Vena Cava
Vein
Brings blood from upper body and head to the heart
Right atrium
Receiving chamber of deoxygenated blood
Tricuspid Valve
Valve between right atrium and right ventricle
Aka- atroventricular Valve
Prevent backflow
Right Ventricle
Pumping chamber of deoxygenated blood
Pumps blood into the pulmonary trunk and therefore into to lungs
Semilunar Valve
Valve between ventricles and arteries, preventing backflow
Pulmonary trunk
Artery which carries deoxygenated blood into the lungs where it because oxygenated
Divides into two pulmonary arteries going into each lung
Pulmonary Vein
Brings oxygenated blood into the Heart from the lungs
Left atrium
Receiving Chamber of oxygenated blood
Bicuspid valve
valve between the atrium and Ventricle
Aka- Atroventricular Valve
Prevents backflow
Left Ventricle
Pumping chamber of oxygenated blood
Has a thick muscular wall as it has to pump blood into the aorta and to the whole body
Semilunar Valve
Valve between Ventricle and Artery
Prevents backflow
Aorta
Main Artery which pumps oxygenated blood to the whole body, except the lungs
Septum
Heart muscle that separates the right and left side
Ensures oxygenated and deoxygenated blood do not mix
Pericardium
Membrane of the heart Holds Heart in place Allows Heart to beat Ensures Heart does not over stretch Cardiac muscle- wall of the heart
Ribs
Protect Heart
