Cellular respiration Flashcards
Aerobic respiration
1) glycolysis- no oxygen required, occurs in cytoplasm and creates 2 ATP. I glucose molecule is broken into 2 pyruvic acid molecules
2) kreb cycle- occurs in inner matrix of mitochondria. Pyruvic acid molecules broken down further creating 2 ATP
Anaerobic Respiration
1) glycolysis- occurs in cytoplasm, requires no oxygen and creates 2 ATP. Glucose broken into two pyruvic acid molecules
2) pyruvic acid molecules converted into lactic acid
3) lactic acid taken into liver and recombine with oxygen to form glucose
- oxygen debt= breathe heavily to increase oxygen level in order to get rid of lactic acid
Lactic acid is bad- causes pain and fatigue
Equation
Glucose+oxygen -> carbon dioxide+water+energy
