What are the 2 main causes of right sided heart failure?
Secondary to left heart failure

What are the main symptoms of left heart failure?
Dyspnoea
Orthopnoea
PND
Pink, frothy sputum (pulmonary oedema)
What are the main symptoms and signs of right heart failure?
Ankle swelling
Raised JVP (v wave)
Tricuspid regurgitation
Hepatomegaly
What are the 4 main drugs used for chronic heart failure?
ACEi/ARB
Beta blockers
Furosemide
Spironolactone
How might hypokalaemia be corrected in heart failure treatment?
Use ACEi/spironolactone - these cause hyperkalaemia
How is ejection fraction defined?
Percentage of EDV ejected during systole
EF < 40% + > 40 % is called?
HFrEF + HFpEF

Echo
ECG
BNP
CXR
Drug that reduces mortality in heart failure?
ACEi
Treatment of acute heart failure?
Sit up, oxygen, anticoagulate, morphine, furosemide and nitrates
Analgesia given with morphine?
Metaclopramide
Treatment for worsening LVF?
CRT, revascularsation, ICD or transplant
What does the ABCDE findings stand for on a CXR?
Alveolar batwings, Kerley B lines, Cardiomegaly, Dilated vessels and pleural Effusion
Normal JVP distance from the sternal angle?
< 3 cm
