What is Noise Abatement?
Reduction of noise at the source must be explored first before implementing other methods of hearing loss prevention
What are the 3 types of hearing tests and their form numbers?
- Reference Hearing Test (DD2215)
- Annual Hearing Test (DD216)
- Termination Hearing Test (DD2215)
What are the noise levels for single and double hearing protection?
- Less than or equal to 84 dBA (no hearing protection)
- Equal to 85 dBA or greater, but less than 96 dBA requires single protection
- Equal to 96 dBA or greater requires double protection
Describe the identification of noise hazardous areas?
- Noise levels equal to 85dba or greater (continous or intermittient)
- 140 dBp peak sound level of impact or impulse noise
- Resurvey after 30 days
How long are records of noise measurement kept?
50 years
When should members receive their Inital Audio exam?
All personnel entering into the Naval Service shall receive a baseline audiogram
What is an STS?

- Positive STS is poorer hearing
- Negative STS is better hearing

Member should be retested after 14 hours noise free environment
