What are the CDM regulations 2015?
Regulations that apply to all building and construction work and are there to ensure all health and safety issues are properly considered.
What is the clients responsibility under the CDM 2015 regulations?
- Appoint competent duty holders
- Prepare and provide relevant information to duty holders
- Ensure the principal designer and principal contractor carey out their duties
What is the role of the principal designer under the CDM 2015 regulations?
- Plan, manage and coordinate pre construction health and safety.
- Identify and eliminate health and safety risks
- Provide relevant information to other duty holders
- Liaise with the principal contractor
What information should be included in a pre construction information pack?
- A project description
- The requirements for welfare facilities, traffic restrictions, permits to work.
- Environmental considerations and any existing on site risks
- Designers risk assessment
- Health and safety file requirements
What would you find in a construction phase plan?
- Project description
- Processes for management of the works
- Arrangements for controlling site risks
What is an F10 notice and when is it required?
A notice containing key project details such as the site address, brief description of the works, contact details for client and principal contractor, programme dates.
Used to notify the HSE of a project when a project will:
- Last longer than 30 working days and have more than 20 operatives on site at any one time
- Exceed 500 person days
What is RIDDOR?
Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013.
Responsible person must notify the HSE of any death, disease, injury or dangerous occurrence to the HSE.
What does COSHH stand for?
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
What precautions do you take when undertaking a site visit?
- Carry out a desktop risk assessment
- Carry out inspection in accordance with lone worker policy
- Wear appropriate PPE
- Adhere to site rules
What is the role of HSE?
To prevent work related death, injury and ill health.
What RICS guidance is there for health and safety?
RICS Surveying Safely professional standard 2nd edition.
Provides standards on:
- Actions that must be taken by employers to ensure safety of employees
- Workplace health and safety
- Hazards and risk assessments
- Visiting sites (PPE, lone working, access)
- During site visits how to assess H&S risks
What is a safe person?
Someone who looks out for their own health and safety as well as the health and safety of others.
What legislation governs health and safety?
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Places a duty on employers to provide and maintain a workplace and systems of work that are safe.
What is the legislation governing asbestos and what are the requirements under that legislation?
Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
- Duty to manage asbestos in non domestic premises
- Must have an asbestos management plan to identify any asbestos in the premises and ensure it’s managed appropriately
