What is the CSCS?
The construction skills certification scheme. The cards certify that the holder has the appropriate training, experience and qualifications for their work (in particular in relation to health and safety).
What is OSHA?
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a government agency that operates within the United States Department of Labor and protects employees in both the public and private sectors.
What is Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970?
Congress created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for workers by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.
What are some of the penalties under OSHA?
a civil penalty of not more than $70,000 for each violation, but not less than $5,000 for each willful violation.
What are the OSHA standards?
”- provide fall protection;
* prevent trenching cave-ins;
* prevent exposure to some infectious diseases;
* ensure the safety of workers who enter confined spaces;
* prevent exposure to harmful chemicals;
* put guards on dangerous machines;
* provide respirators or other safety equipment; and
* provide training for certain dangerous jobs in a language and vocabulary workers can understand.”
What is the Health and safety at work act 1974?
“The Primary piece of legislations covering occupational health and safety in the UK.
Lays down wide-ranging duties on employers.”
How do you dispose of Asbestos Waste?
”- It should be placed in suitable packaging to prevent fibers being released.
- It should be sent to a licensed disposal site.”
What are the COSHH Regulations 2002?
“Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2003, requires
employers to prevent or reduce workers exposure to substances including:
o Chemicals and chemical products
o Fumes, gases, vapors and mists
o Dusts
o Nanotechnology
o Biological agents and germs”
What is Asbestos?
A mineral that easily separates into long flexible fibers. It is used to make materials that are fireproof, do not conduct electricity, and are chemically resistant. It can cause serious lung disease if inhaled as a dust.
What are the Asbestos types
”- White (most common) - found in roofs, ceilings, walls and floors
- Brown - most frequently in cement sheets and pipe insulation.
- Blue - used to insulate steam engines
- Grey - insulation products and construction materials”
