- Minimising the risks that already exists
- A problem treated before it becomes too much of a problem
- Earlier interventions are often more effective than late ones

A
- Its for everyone, target whole population
- Tries to strengthen resilience
- Simple interventions
- Try to reach many or all
No difference between different groups or risks - Newborn care, Anti smoking in schools and restaurants
- Often small effect sizes

A
- Focus on those at risks and known to be at risk
Fewer people targeted - One or more risk factors
- Usually more costly per person
- Special groups for vulnerable parents, psychological aid at traumatic events

- For those with symptoms
Analogue to treatment, hard differentiate
