What are the CDM 2015 Regulations
- The Construction Design and Management Regulations intend to ensure that matters of health and safety are properly considered
- CDM regulations apply to all construction works
What are the Principal Designers responsibilities under CDM?
- Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate pre-construction H&S
- Identify, eliminate and control key risks
- Advise the Client on brining together pre-construction information
- Laisse with the PC in the planning, management and coordination of the Construction Phase Plan
What are the Client’s responsibilities under CDM?
- Appoint a competent Duty Holder
- Allow sufficient time and resources
- Provide relevant information to the Duty Holder
- Ensure that the PC & PD carry out their duties

What is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974?
- This is the primary piece of legislation governing H&S in the UK
- It places a statutory duty on all employers to provide and maintain equipment and systems of work that are safe
- The Act Aims to
Secure the health and safety of people of work
Protect the health and safety of others from work activities
Prevent dangerous substances
Prevent emissions
Employers with more than 5 employees must have formal written H&S documents outlining the H&S structure of the organisation
What is the F10?
It is a form that notifies the HSE of the project
It contains:
- The site address
- Nature of the works
- Name of the local authorities
- Contact details of the Client and PC
What does RIDDOR stand for?
- Reporting of diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations
- Requires the responsible person to notify the HSE
What does COSHH stand for?
- Control of substances hazardous to health
- Regulations aim to avoid exposure to hazardous material
What are the powers of the HSE?
- Inspectors can visit site without notice to talk to workers
- To issue written or verbal information and advise
- To impose sanctions if necessary
