Define Hazmat
Any material that may pose a substantial hazard to human health or the environment when purposefully released or accidentally spilled

Waste that has a substantial or potential threats to public health of the environment
How often is hazmat stowage locations inspected? what do you look for?
Weekly & quarterly
Inspection should consist of tightness of closure,corrosion,leakage, improper or inadequate labeling

Define Oily waste
Oil is mixed with water or other fluids so that the state of the mix. generated is no longer useful w/o further treatment
Define Waste oil
Oil whos characteristics have changed since being originally refined & has become unsuitable for further shipboard use
Describe the actions required for oil spills outside the us contiguous zone
- initiate immediate action
- Notify the predesignated fleet navy on scene coordinator
- implement a oil and hazardous substance spill response plan
what is the proper marking of hm containers?
- manufacturer labels
- clearly identify material name,manufacture name & address
What are the precautions observed when handling flammables?
- Avoid accumulation of vapors
- use bottle carriers for transporting glass containers
- Dont heat flammable liquids w/ open flame
