Aircraft Handling Fundamentals Flashcards
What is SE used for in aircraft handling?
To service test & troubleshoot aircraft systems
List the danger areas for aviation
- intake
- exhaust
- explosives
- hazardous materials
- flight controls
- compressed gases
why is it necessary to static ground the windshield?
During flight a high voltage (100,000 volts) static electrical charge may build up and get stored in the windshield
What is initial tie down?
Winds up to 45 knots.Minimum 6 chains required
what is Normal weather tie down?
Up to 45 knots.Minimum 6 chains required
What is a moderate weather tie down?
Up to 46 to 60 knots.14 chains required
what is a heavy weather tie down?
Up to 60 knots.20 chains required
What are the mandatory hand signals regardless of aircraft type?
Emergency stop
Towing speed shall not exceed?
5 mph or speed of slowest walker
What is the purpose of the emergency shore based recovery equipment?
To minimize the chance of an accident that could cause injury to the pilot or crew OR damage to the aircraft.
Identify safety hazard associated with
intakes and exhaust
Intakes-develops enough suction to pull an individuals hat, glasses, ect.
Exhaust-High temp and high velocity
Identify the safety hazard associated with
propellors
rotor blades
hot brakes
Propellors- walk around when turning
Rotor Blades-Should not approach when engaged
Hot brakes-Explosion of wheel, never face side of wheel
What is the purpose of a wind indicator?
A method for prompt issuance of wind directions & velocities to pilots.
What is the purpose of an airfield rotating beacon?
To identify the airports location during darkness& daylight hours.
What is the purpose of tower visual communications?
Coordination device between the radio controller & the control tower.
