Hardy Weinberg (E1) Flashcards
1
Q
Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium 5 conditions
A
- No mutations
- Random mating
- No natural selection
- Extremely large population size (No genetic drift)
- No gene flow
2
Q
Genetic Drift
A
the change in allele over time due to chance
Can lead to loss of genetic variation within population, or cause harmful alleles to be fixed
3
Q
Bottleneck Effect
A
smaller populations, occurs when disasters happen, certain alleles take over, and some fade away
4
Q
Founder Effect
A
a small portion of the population is isolated, and new generations will have new genes
