Body Classification (E1) Flashcards
Radial Symmetry
- Usually sessile (living attached to something ex. the ground)
- Meets environment equally from all sides
Bilateral Symmetry
Allows for complex movement
Germ Layers
3d layers that form the tissues and organs of the body
Diploblastic
have two germ layers
Triploblastic
have three germ layers
Ectoderm
outermost layer, makes up skin
Endoderm
innermost layer, makes the digestive tract
Mesoderm
third layer in between ecto-endoderm, in all bilaterally symmetrical animals
Coelom (true coelom)
a body cavity composed of only the mesoderm
Coelomate
animals with a true coelom
Pseudo coelom
a body cavity comprised of both the mesoderm and endoderm
Pseudocoelomate
animals with a pseudocoelom
Acoelomate
animals without a coelom
Hox Genes
regulate the development and expression of other genes
Protostome Development
- Spiral cleavage (determinate cleavage)
- Archenteron forms from mesoderm, which splits and forms the coelom
- Blastopore becomes mouth
