How is timber made ?

A

Once a tree is chopped down the branches are removed
Trunks are then transported to a sawmill where they are cut into usable planks
When the planks are green the still contain a lot of water which is removed by drying the wood with a kiln or air

A
  • Deciduous trees that loose their leaves in winter
  • generally grow in climates such as that of the British isles
  • grow very slowly hence they are expensive
  • grow wide- good for cutting huge planks
