Hand/Wrist Flashcards
Colles Fracture (dinner fork)
transverse fracture of the distal radial metaphysics with anterior displacement
Madelung Deformity
developmental abnormality of the wrist leading to palmar and ulnar wrist subluxation
Finkelstein’s test
fingers around thumb and ulnar deviation.
evidence of tenosynovitis of extensors
Allens test
used to determine the function of the radial and ulnar arteries supplying the hand
- squeeze hand and then release like 5 times then apply pressure to radial and ulnar arteries. if one is broke it won’t become red
kienbocks disease
loss of blood supply to the lunate bone
Mallet finger
blow from an object that strikes the tip of the finger, jamming and avulsing the extensor tendon from its insertion, along with a piece of bone
boutineere deformity
rupture of the extensor tendon dorsal to the middle phalanx. trauma occurs to the tip of the finger which forces the DIP joint into extension
Jersey finger
flexor digitorum profundus from its insertion on the distal phalanx, usually ring fingers.
**inability to flex the finger
Dupuytren’s contractuer
nodules develop in the palmar aponeurosis that limit finger extension
swan neck
distal tear of the solar plate from the middle phalanx
severe hyperextension of PIP
Bennets fracture
occurs in the first metacarpal just distal to eh CMC joint of the thumb as a result of an axial and abductional loading
Boxers fracture
metacarpal fracture
direct axial force or a compressive force
drop wrist
palsy of the radial nerve
claw hand
compression of the median and ulnar nerves
ape hand
results from palsy of the median nerve
