What happens with Dupuytren’s?
- get abn thickening of the fibrous connective tissue of the palm and fingers on the flexor side
- fibrous tissue will often be palpable
Who most commonly gets Dupuytren’s?
men
Where does Dupuytren’s most commonly occur?
4th and 5th finger
What type of problem is a trigger finger?
inflammatory response
Trigger finger: what happens?
- tendon no longer glides smoothly through the sheaths
- pushhhhh and pop it through
Swan neck deformity: what is flexed and what is hyperextended?
- DIP flexed
- PIP hyperextended
tx for swan neck
finger splinting to neutral
Which is more common: swan neck or boutonniere?
swan neck
Therapists who have swan neck deformity should be careful of:
- manual therapy
- massage
maybe use knuckles instead of fingertips
Boutonniere deformity: What is flexed and what is hyperextended?
- PIP is flexed
- DIP is hyperextended
What happens to cause a boutonniere deformity?
- ED is ruptured
- central part slips out
- usually slides down the side of the finger

splinting to neutral
What does a mallet ringer look like?
- pt can’t extend DIP
- can extend PIP
Testing for mallet finger
- Have the pt try to extend
- won’t be able to extend DIP
