8.17 OP Flashcards
typical location for vertebral wedge fx
lumbar
Why does one wedge fx predispose someone to additional ones?
- poor weight distribution
- anterior wedging
bed mobility for a pt with fx
log roll when in doubt
Why is it important to use log rolling for pts with a fx when donning a brace?
- don’t want them to twist
- getting out of bed normally increases flexion and rotation
- teach them to continue using log roll independently in the long term
foot positioning for working sit to stand: feet underneath body
need sufficient DF and knee flexion
What is important to work on with sit to stand?
- ECCENTRICS
- increasing difficulty by changing hand positions
single best exercise to prevent another vertebral fx
mini-squats
