Discuss the use of rFVIIa in veterinary species.

A

used to treat haemophilia A and B - When rhVIIa is given at high doses, causes coagulation by bypassing the intrinsic pathway and initiates hemostasis by increasing the interaction between FVII and tissue factor (TF). A second mechanism, known as the bypass effect, is TF-independent. rFVIIa binds directly to the phospholipid membrane of activated platelets, which activates FX.
Dogs develop Abs to human FVII within two weeks.
