Haemorrhage, shock, thrombosis and embolism Flashcards
Haemorrage definition
Bleeding from transected or ruptured blood vessels or from heart
Haemorrhage by rhexis
Physical damage to a tissue causing hemorrhage
Haemorrhage by diapedesis
tiny gaps between endothelial cells causing haemorrhage
Petechiae
Pinpoint 1-2mm diameter haemorrhage
Ecchymoses
Larger foci of haemorrhage 2-3 cm
Suffusive
large irregular areas of hemorrhages affecting the tissue
Hematoma
Local, confined accumulation of blood, usually clotted
haemorrhage compensatory mechanisms
- Redistribution of blood to vital centers
- Restoration of plasma volume
- Replacement of lost erythrocytes
Shock definitions
peripheral circulatory failure due to disparity between the amount of blood present and volume or capacity of the vascular system
or
failure of circulatory system to adequetly perfuse organs
types of shock
hypovolemic shock
cardiogeneic shock
vasculogeneic shock
hypovolemic shock
occurs when there is a dramatic decrease in volume of blood present
cardiogeneic shock
a result of decreased cardic output
vasculogenic shock
Occurs when there is either widespread vasodilation or widespread damage to large number of capillaries beds
factors of thrombosis
damage to blood vessel
abnormal blood flow
hypercoagulability
embolus definition
An abnormal mass circulating in blood stream
