chronic inflammation Flashcards
causes of chronic inflammation
- persistant infection
- immune mediated inflammatory disease
- prolonged exposure to potentially toxic agents
granulomatous inflammation definition
Type of chronic inflammation that is dominated by macrophages, epithelioid macrophages and/or multinucleated giant cells accompanied by lower numbers of lymphocytes and plasma cells.
Epithelioid macrophages definition
activated macrophages that contain abundant cytoplasm and hang out together, lending an appearance similar to epithelial cells
multinucleated giant cells definition
macrophages that can undergo multiple fusion events to form multinucleated cells
Non-granulomatous inflammation definition
type of inflammation that is characterized by a predominant cell type and it can be lymphocytic, plasmacytic or a combination of both
granulation tissue definition
exposed connective tissue that forms within a healing wound
angiogenesis definition
formation of new blood vessels which supply nutriets and oxygen to support the repair process
tissue classifications according to poliferative capacity of cells
