Q

Murphy’s systolic pressure was 40mmHg, what might you expect his BP to be at the arterial end of a capillary? Why is this important?

A

~10mmHg, he’ll have very poor perfusion of tissues, so they will start anaerobically respiring.

V low hydrostatic pressure will mean vessels will start reabsorbing water from eCF!

RAAS will be activated

Inc RESP & collapse

Q

Why would administration of hartmann’s exacerbate Murphy’s condition?

A

Would cause further haemodiltution, further decreasing plasma oncotic pressure

Q

How does Murphy’s poor venous return affect his heart function

A

Reduced BP & preload, thus reduced SV and CO

Q

Why is RAAS activated?

A

Dec BP, Dec capillary hydrostatic pressure –> kidneys will conserve Na + H20 (will further dilute PCV :( )

Q

Murphy is treated with fresh frozen plasma and cells, how will this change his cardiac function?

A

INC blood volume, INC venous return, INC EDV (preload), INC adequate stretch of heart to INC force of contraction thus INC SV, CO and hence systolic pressure (BP)
