A
- takes into account econ and social, e.g. life expectancym knowledge and standard of living = shows fuller picture of develpoment
- figures allow countries to be compared w/ each other and ranks them
- shifts focus to meeting human needs instead of trad view of economy
- updated frequently = current info available from 2021 = shows progression over time = can be graphed for easy visual comparison

evaluating HDI - negatives
A
- only 3 ssets of data used, some argue need to be used to adequately understand dev levels
- can’t reflect inequalities an human security
- using GNI it still retains criticisms of using economic factors that dont take into account infromal economy
