Climate Change - Human Causes Flashcards
1
Q
carbon dioxide
A
- burning fossil fuels - road transport, power stations, heating systems
- deforestation (esp. rainforests) - trees make CO₂ –> O₂ = w/out trees CO₂ builds up in the atmosphere
- peat bog reclamation/development (esp. scotland) for wind farms releases trapped CO₂ into the atms
2
Q
CFCs
A
- shredding of disused fridges = shredding foam inside releases CFCs
- out of use ACs give off CFCs if not correctly dismantled
- CFcs created as a byproduct of polystyrene packing (e.g. takeaway) - on the rise bc of eg deliveroo
3
Q
methane
A
- rice paddies feed increasing pops such as india & china
- belching cows to meet increasing global demand for beef e.g. argentinian beef farms
- melting permafrost in arctic areas
- when landfill sites decompose, increasing pop = landfills rise
4
Q
nitrous oxides
A
- vehicle exhausts - increased cards bc increased pop & higher disposable incomes & more ppl learning to drive
- power stations - coal fired to meet energy demands for growing pops e.g. india & china, coal generates 40% of global electricity bc increased electronic gadgets
