When a female reaches puberty she ovulate and experience menstruation
Female begins period when reaching puberty 11-16
Period stops when women reaches menopause
Around age 50
Each ovary produces an ovum during each menstrual activity
Women experience minor cramping pain during ovulation when a ovum is released
(flip card) pain described
Dull pain on one side of the lower abdomen and back
Fertilization begins where?
Vagina where the male deposited in the female reproductive tract
Sperm pass the cervix into the uterus then up the fallopian tube eventually
*ovum move down fallopian tube slow
*Sperm move up the tube and 1 sperm fertilize the ovum
When ovum fertilized embryo goto the uterus
Embryo attach to the uterine wall and continue to grow
If ovum not fertilized in the fallopian tube it travels to the uterus
* if no fertilization In 14 days uterus begin to separate and menstruation occurs blood come from the separated lining for bout 1 week
Hormones (are in ovaries) :
control the process of ovulation and menstruation

Can lead to ectopic pregnancy (develops outside the uterus)

Disease causes organisms to enter vagina during sex
*migrate through opening of cervix to uterine cavity
*infection can cause scarring and can be life threatening if ovaries infected
Signs/symptoms:🪧
Come from having sex with multiple people:
Smelly vagina discharge
Pain during sex
Fever
General malaise
Nausea
Vomiting
Sexual transmitted diseases
Chlamydia
Bacterial vaginosis
Gonorrhea
All can process to (Pelvic inflammation disease )
Vaginal bleeding/
*Menstrual bleeding happens monthly
*some causes of vaginal bleeding :
Abnormal menstruation vaginal trauma ectopic pregnancy miscarriage
*internal trauma of the vagina is rare because organs are located deep within the vagina
External genitalia is painful because large amount of nerves and blood vessels
Internal bleeding from polyps or cancer is painless
Ectopic pregnancy and spontaneous abortion
Can cause vaginal bleeding during early pregnancy
It is important to have a female EMT to provide care
If both providers are males call for female provider early
Patient HISTORY find out the NOI (important)
Obtain a sample
*Vaginal bleeding sufficiently can lead to shock
*Never insert anything to control blood even tampons
*Transport based on vital signs
*If she has fever consider sign of infection
Obtain orthostatic vital signs
Always maintain patient privacy as much as you can
*move to ambulance if you in a public place
*use sanitary pads to absorb blood
*document number of pads
*treat as if they were in hemorrhagic shock keep supine and warm
Treat lacerations with sterile compresses
Sexual assault and rape
Abused sexual before the age of 12
*alcohol is the most used date rape drug as well as rohypnol added to a drink
Flip card for other drugs

Hypotension
Bradycardia
Abdominal complaints

*Do not cut clothes
Or throw away anything from scene
*Place clothes in a paper bag
*Ask pt to not clean herself
*try get her to not urinate ,changing clothes rinsing her mouth or moving bowels
*If refused transport call rape crisis
*Use quotation marks to indicate patient side of story
